Beef Biryani


Beef Gravy

  1. Beef – chopped into small pieces – 500 gms
  2. Ghee – 3 tbsps
  3. Onions – 3 large. Finely sliced.
  4. Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
  5. Green chillies – 3
  6. Cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon powders – 1/4 tsp each
  7. Coriander powder – 1 heaped tsp
  8. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  9. Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp (as per taste)
  10. Salt to taste.
  11. Chopped mint leaves – 3 tbsp
  12. Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp
  13. Tomato puree – 1 cup
  14. Garam masala – 1/2 cup


  1. Basmati Rice – 2 cups
  2. Saffron – 3-4 strands
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Water as required

Beef Gravy

  1. Pressure cook the beef till the pieces are done.
  2. In a deep-bottomed pan, heat the ghee.
  3. Saute onions till translucent. You could also saute them till they turn brown.
  4. Continue to saute adding the ginger-garlic paste and green chillies.
  5. Add the cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon powders and saute for about a minute.
  6. Add coriander, turmeric powder and pepper powder and saute for about a minute.
  7. Add salt to taste.
  8. Add chopped mint leaves and coriander leaves and saute for about a minute..
  9. Add tomato puree. Allow this gravy to cook for about 3 minutes.
  10. Add the cooked beef and blend it well with the gravy.
  11. Add the garam masala.
  12. You could add water to ensure that there is a thick consistency of the gravy so that it will blend well with the rice.


  1. Soak the rice for about an hour. Drain and keep aside after soaking.
  2. Add 3 cups of water with 3-4 strands of saffron and bring the water to boil.
  3. Add the drained rice and cook till done. This should take about 10-15 minutes. Keep checking on the rice to make sure it is done
  4. Add salt to taste.

Note: Alternatively, you could cook white rice in your usual method of cooking and add a few strands of saffron.

The Biryani

Cover the beef gravy with rice and blend with the rice spoon to make sure that the spices are evenly spread across the dish.

The Beef Biryani is now ready to be served.
